Dr JOhn Hewson

Dr Hewson has worked as an economist for the Australian Treasury (Census and Statistics), the Reserve Bank, the International Monetary Fund and as an advisor to two successive Federal Treasurers and the Prime Minister. His academic career included 11 years as the Professor of Economics at Macquarie University, four years as Head of the School of Economics at the University of New South Wales.

Eric Duckler has more than 25 years of risk management and credit underwriting experience with GE Capital, GE Healthcare and several external U.S. financial institutions. He joined GE Capital in 2003 and moved to GE Healthcare in 2011 where he has held progressively expanding roles.

Eric’scurrent role is Americas Credit Leader. He is responsible for all Healthcare product lines in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. He oversees day-to-day credit decisions and represents GE Healthcare in the implementation of the Financial Enterprise Standard across the GE Industrial businesses.

Professor Helen Anderson is an academic from the Melbourne Law School. Her teaching and research concentrates on corporate law and insolvency law. She holds an LLB (Hons)(Melb), as well as a Grad Dip Bus (Acc), LLM and PhD. The fair treatment of vulnerable parties has been her abiding research interest. She continues this interest with her work on improving the recovery rights of employees in corporate insolvency and investigating ways to regulate fraudulent phoenix activity. Both projects received substantial funding from the Australian Research Council.

Patrick is one of Australia’s leading commercial negotiators and mediators, and has facilitated the resolution of hundreds of commercial, property, tax, franchise, and partnership cases. He has also been instrumental in setting up and developing many alternative dispute resolution (ADR) organisations, both in Australia and overseas.

Bill Famelos

Jason Bettles

Jason has experience in all forms of corporate and personal insolvency matters. He has provided recommendations on the most appropriate solutions to deal with insolvency issues to all types of parties. Jason's knowledge and experience allows him to consider informal arrangements to solve insolvency problems, as well as the formal insolvency administrations.

Declan Kissane

Declan is a barrister in practice at the Queensland Bar.  Declan’s practice is focused on commercial litigation and insolvency.   Before being called to the bar, Declan was in private practice as a solicitor predominantly practising commercial litigation and insolvency.

Declan has a particular interest in the law and practice surrounding preference claims and other voidable transactions under the Corporations Act and the Bankruptcy Act.  Declan is retained regularly on behalf of liquidators and creditors alike to prosecute and defend preference claims.


Arthur Tchtchenian

Arthur has worked in the credit industry for the past 26 years and a Credit Manager for the past 19 years working in a number of different industries such as the Banking Sector, Healthcare and Pharmaceutical, Home Entertainment and most recently Toll Roads.

Arthur has both an Accounting degree and a Science degree and attained his CCE qualifications since 2012. He is a tragic St. George Dragons supporter and in his spare time coaches his sons U12 basketball team.

Debbie Leo

Debbie Leo has over 30 years’ experience in risk management, covering both consumer & commercial credit.  She has been with Veda since 2004 and has held various management roles in that time

During her extensive risk management career, she has held prominent sales, operations and outsourcing roles with Australia’s major credit reporting agencies.  Debbie’s knowledge of credit risk spans across industry sectors such as trade credit & trade credit insurance, banking & finance. 


Neil Shilbury

POSITION: General Manager, Commercial Risk  COMPANY: Veda

Neil Shilbury joined Veda in June 2016, and has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector both in Australia and the Asian region. This included an extensive career in the commercial customer sector at ANZ Bank extending from Small Business to Institutional Banking, culminating in leadership of the bank’s Australian Corporate Banking business.

At Veda Neil is responsible for defining and driving the strategic direction for Veda’s portfolio of Commercial Risk Solutions across Commercial Lending, Trade Credit, Trade Insurance and Financial Viability, Procurement and Ratings Analytics. This includes Veda’s commercial credit bureau which houses credit history of commercial businesses across Australia.


Kirk Cheesman

Kirk Cheesman is the Managing Director of National Credit Insurance Brokers and started with NCI started in 1990. Throughout Kirk’s time at NCI the company has grown to over 160 employees and 2,500 clients throughout Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Kirk shows strength in identifying and finding appropriate solutions to mitigate credit risks. This has been applied not only to small, local businesses but to large multi-national companies. 


Tim Cole

Tim Cole is the Director Operations and Strategy from AFSA’s Regulation and Enforcement division. AFSA provide improved and equitable financial outcomes for consumers, business and the community through application of bankruptcy and personal property securities laws, regulation of personal insolvency practitioners, and trustee services. 


Mike Cutter

Mike joined Veda in March 2015 with an extensive career in financial services, spanning more than 25 years, both in Australia and abroad. Mike’s roles have included time at National Australia Bank, CRO at ANZ (Australia), CEO at GE Money Australia & New Zealand and CEO of OAMPS Insurance Broking. Mike has knowledge of Comprehensive Credit Reporting from international markets and has been one of the original champions of CCR in the Australian market. 


Kim powell

POSITION: Co- Founder COMPANY: EDX (part of Veda Group)

Kim has specialised in PPSA consultancy and registration services since similar legislation was introduced in New Zealand in 2001/2002 - he is a co-founder of EDX.PPSA is a natural area of interest for him – he is a former receiver and liquidator and then headed up the recoveries division of a major NZ bank, before “jumping the fence” to the good side, rebuilding the business bank book as NZ emerged from recession in the early 90’s. This means he is expert in enforcing security, taking security and managing security.


Nicholas Harrak

Nick holds a Bachelor of Legal Studies and a post-graduate Advanced Diploma in Business/Legal Practice. He joined recoveriescorp in January 2000 and is an excellent example of our policy of promoting from within.
